In the heat of the moment, Jenny was trembling with more excitement than fear. The whole world was suddenly at her feet. She knew she was trying hard to curtail her excitement but her efforts were beginning to wear out. Wale was begging her, clinging to her for support. She had to slip her hand to pinch her self for assurance. It was real. Wale was pleading, ‘I will do anything- just let Sade go’ he repeated, almost at the brink of insanity. She saw the sincerity in his eyes. He would do anything. Desperate to hide her glee, she gradually produced his pension and life insurance forms. How foolish was this plan? Her mind was running haywire, sending warning signals to her brain, but she shook her head vigorously as sweat poured into her palms, momentarily soiling the documents. ‘Sign these’ she barked, shoving the pen into his numb fingers. Wale looked horrified as he studied the documents which she was clutching unto. Bode laughed suddenly, alerting her of his existence. He had been so quiet. ‘Where did you get these?’ Wale asked, barely whispering the words out. The agony that masked on his face was profound. He looked 10 years older. She wanted to tell him everything, she was eager for him to feel the pain of betrayal, but Bode was watching her. He scared her. He had a creepy way of eyeing her warily, as if he was planning what to do to her next. She was sure he could kill her, he had that look, but she would be a good girl, and behave. She glanced at Sade, and felt almost sorry for the girl. The woman had the one thing she had always wanted; Wale’s child. Jenny secretly hoped that Sade wasn’t dead; the woman did not deserve to die, she deserved to experience the pain of childlessness, the anguish of hearing a doctor blurt out the bitter truth. She licked her lips slowly, as she remembered the screams Sade had belted out, each time her hands had made with Sade’sbody. She had thoroughly enjoyed delving punches into Sade’s womb area repeatedly, expecting to see a trickle of blood from between her legs, but it hadn’t happened yet… well, Bode had interrupted and finished the beating, rendering the woman almost unconscious. Even she had screamed for him to stop. He had been like an animal, pulling out the woman’s hair and screaming obscenities. Then, he had produced the can of petrol and set it by his foot. Jenny did not dare ask him what it was for. She knew. He was going to burn the house down and probably disappear. She too had her plans, her passport was in her hand bag, and her hotel in Florida was awaiting her, but not until Wale authorised the insurance and pension payments to her name. Bode puffed on his cigar and her heart walloped. The can of petrol was right next to his feet. What if it exploded? She pulled her eyes away from the can and focused on Wale. He was trying to say something.
‘You can’t get anywhere with this, Jenny, you cant win…’ She resisted the urge to kick his chin again. ‘Shut up and sign the bloody forms. I have nothing to loose anymore. If I get caught, you are dead. If I don’t, you are still dead. As your widow, I am entitled to something.’ she replied, almost adding ‘no one will ever suspect me, I have an airtight alibi’. Wale stared at her with burning hatred. She could cut through his gaze with a knife. ‘Why are you so evil? What did Sade do to deserve this? You can’t get away with it….’ He continued, ignoring her instructions. Wale was proving very difficult. She laughed nervously and blinked slowly to reduce the twitching in her left eye. ‘There is nothing to investigate; I am still your wife, I worked with you for months and never confronted you in public, never made anyone suspect that I was malicious….I even have bills to your home address- we were never separated, I have this all planned out, trust me’. She paused to allow it sink in. ‘It will be over before they even suspect your death’ she added. At that point, she gave a silent thank you to Q, the wonderful data entry officer that allowed her access to Wale’s most personal information at work. Wale looked amused for a second, before the look quickly passed to one of fury. ‘Believe me, you will not get anywhere with this’ he looked like he was about to add something to what he’d just said, but he shakily signed the forms instead. She grabbed the forms off him while Bode tied his arms together with the rope. She now needed to carry out part two of her plan. Insurance companies were notorious when it came to claims. She hoped the remaining of the day would go as planned. She walked briskly away from Wale and tucked the documents into her bag. Bode killed his cigar and stood up to his feet. He smiled at her, through cold eyes. She felt a connection to him then. They had both won. He had everything to gain if Sade died. He would rather bury his wife than to share half of his wealth with her, should she file for divorce. She also had everything to gain. A huge insurance pay out and the sheer joy of watching Wale break down in pain, as he slowly gave way to death. She returned his smile, through colder eyes. The best of all, they were each other’s alibi, and no one knew they were there, but Mickey, who; all things being equal, should be some60,000 feet above sea level, en route to Sweden.

Eniola glanced at Myles nervously, as he pressed his foot on the pedal. The car shot forward while the sirens blasted behind her- JT and his team were following closely. His eye brows looked like one big line of hair as he frowned, pursing his lips together in anger. He was furious, and he looked it. The traffic delved away from their path and looked like a colony of ants scurrying away from danger. It felt good to be leading the police to a destination. She talked continually, in a desperate effort to hide her fear. She explained to Myles all she knew. Wale’s relationship with Jenny was the hardest to explain. Why hadn’t Wale gotten a divorce? Myles had shot at her, and she had bit her lip in response. She didn’t know. Wale was careless and stupid. He should have even gotten a restraining order. She would have. She explained to Myles that she, Bode and Sade all grew up in the same town; Bode’s family being the richer of the two did nothing to hide their excesses- including the mansion his father acquired in the nineties. Her father, an engineer, also a friend of Bode’s father had constantly praised Chief BCW for acquiring such a timeless piece of architecture. She remembered how her father had always said 54- the mansion was a palace- any man’s dream home. She had never been there, but Sade attested to it. It was a beautiful house. Her father loved it, but Sade hated it. She jerked suddenly in her seat. The car was turning unto a rusty road. Myles had not said a word for twenty minutes. He seemed to be calculating. The sirens had stopped. JT’s team were trailing them slowly now. She saw curtains being pulled apart as the village looked in interest. What was a row of police cars doing in their neighbourhood? ~Myles drove up a hill and pulled his car to a halt. The others followed suit. The radio in their car beeped and Myles exchanged information with the others, often using code that Eniola had only heard in movies. ‘Is this the place?’ she asked? Clearly looking puzzled at the vast land that surrounded her.

‘ I should ask you’ he barked and Eniola frowned. Why was he still being nasty to her? She shrugged. She didn’t know. She had never been there, but this place looked nothing like a mansion. Myles’s expression softened a little bit. ‘We stopped because we don’t want to arouse any more suspicion, I have received confirmation that we are within range of the house, and Ill take it from here’. He ran his hands across his head and Eniola’s heart fluctuated. Even under stress, Myles looked incredibly handsome.
‘Why don’t we go to the house with the armed police?’ she asked, and Myles’s left cheek dimpled. ‘I am going to the house, not we. Secondly, If there is no one in the house, or if it is just Bode, he would know that he is under suspicion, and he may bolt, I cant afford to mess this investigation up’ he puffed on some air before continuing. ‘We have no search warrant, no arrest warrant, nothing on him but what you have said. It is dangerous at this stage to close in on BCW with little evidence’. She nodded. She understood. Her years studying criminal law ensured that. You just couldn’t turn up at someone’s doorstep because you ‘think’ they are endangering someone else. He pulled the car door lever and leaped out of the car with agility. ‘Stay here’ he instructed and shut the door behind him. Eniola sank into the car seat and watched his retreating figure. A few seconds later, she jumped out of the car, and followed him quietly, careful to maintain a reasonable distance between them.

She could smell fire. Her chest was convulsing and closing up on her as smell of a strong element invaded her lungs. Her eyes fluttered open and she coughed. A metallic taste filled her mouth. Was it blood? Sade pulled her eye lids apart and winced in pain. She could see a sea of six people. Or was it three people? Was she in heaven or hell? There were two men sitting on the floor. She blinked twice and her vision cleared a little bit. It was one man-Wale. What was he doing here? Was he part of them? Was this a conspiracy? Bode was pouring on the floor. Petrol. A sinking feeling gripped her stomach and she felt wetness between her legs. Urine. They were going to burn the house down. A sharp pain tore through her muscles and ripped her abdomen but she held back from screaming. Her baby. She felt the wetness between her thighs again. It felt.. warm and sticky… like… blood. Her baby. She wanted to reach for help, she wanted to ask Wale to come and save his child. Their child. So she did. She let out a moan and Wale’s head shot up. So did the woman. She raised a gun and said something to Wale. Sade didn’t hear, her ears refused to function. Wale seemed to have heard the woman, but chose to ignore her. She saw him struggling to his feet and lunging towards her. The pain and yearning in his eyes tore right through her soul. She knew she was slipping into unconsciousness when she tried to moan again to warn him. The woman was now pointing the gun at him. She tried to scream, to stop him from coming towards her, but he was acting like a mad man, shrieking and struggling to untie himself. She didn’t hear anything else after the woman fired the gun. She saw Wale crumble to the floor. She saw the mantelpiece explode in a ball of fire, and acrid smoke filled the room. The mantle piece was far from where she was tied, but dangerously close to where Wale was. It was not a dream. The woman screamed then and dropped the gun. Bode lurched at the trembling woman, who looked terrified, and dealt her a thunderous blow, knocking her to the ground. He then tired in vain to kill the fire, which was dancing with force and beginning to lick the surrounding areas. She tore her gaze away and rested her swollen eye on Wale. Blood was pouring from behind his head. His eyes were closed, he looked…almost peaceful. She knew then that there was no point living, there was no point struggling, the game of life was over, and Wale had lost his, because of her. The last thing she saw; as her eyes closed in unconsciousness was Bode’s final glance at Wale’s still frame, before he stepped out of the room and shut the door on them all, leaving them to burn to death.

Myles stopped dead in his tracks. A gun had been fired, and or something had exploded. He was standing right at the door step of the house and a gun was fired. He knew JT and his team heard it. He was sure they would call an ambulance. He waited a few seconds, and sure enough, a row of police cars, amidst blaring blue lights screeched to a halt in front of the house. He wanted to desperately take charge, but this was no longer his game. He was not in the police force anymore. He stepped back and allowed JT to take charge. JT jumped out of the car and five men ran ahead of him, surrounding the house as he thundered on the door. He hated process. He wanted to break the windows and charge in. Someone was probably dead in that house. Sade was probably dead. He looked in despair as JT was issuing out instructions to no one in particular. A few seconds ticked by and Myles grew restless. Why was JT knocking on the door? Another second went by and Myles knew he had to act fast. He saw Eniola being restrained by a couple of police men. He knew that she had disobeyed him and followed him. She was crying hysterically and his heart pumped with love. He had to do something. He grabbed a coppers gun and ran in the direction of where he felt the window to the main area of activity was. JT screamed his name in warning, but he ignored it. He could not fail this time. He would rather die instead. He lurched forward and hit the glass, and groaned as agonizing pain swam through his shoulder blade. This body bounced on toughened glass and he landed on the floor with a thud. His shoulder bone heaved. Without a moment’s hesitation, he grabbed a huge metal lying on the ground and threw it through the window, shaking his head as the window barely cracked. The rich always protected their property. From a near distance, he heard a loud bang followed by noises. He knew that JT and his men had secured their way into the house. He was about to turn in the direction of the house; when he saw a figure running away from the chaos. Instinctively, he picked up a run and chased him with increasing speed. Myles was tired, and he knew that the man would out run him if he didn’t catch up in a second. With all the strength he had left, he lunged himself forward and grabbed a hold of the man’s foot, pulling him down to the ground. Surprisingly, the man was strong and wasted no time in punching his face. His upper lip burst open, but there was too much adrenalin in him to notice the pain. He punched the man in return, concentrating on his abdomen. A closer look at him revealed that this was BCW. His target. BCW was punching his face repeatedly and his nose was beginning to bleed. Where on earth was JT?!. He had the copper’s gun in his back pocket, but both arms were tied into BCW’s. He felt his strength sipping out of him slowly as both men exchanged punch after punch. Realising that BCW was not going to give up, he gambled. In one swift movement he reached for his back pocket and pulled out the gun. BCW used the opportunity to kick him off and Myles groaned as his back hit the floor. Without thinking, Myles fired into the air to alert JT, before pointing the gun at BCW who had taken off and was now a few feet away from him.
‘One more step and Ill shoot you’ Myles screamed, and BCW halted, turning around slowly to face him squarely. The man looked fearless. Relieved that JT’s men were closing in on them; he held the gun steadily in his hand, pointed at BCW who appeared to be grinning. He didn’t realise how unfit he had been until today. BCW had almost killed him with punches. He made a mental note of hitting the gym once they all got of this alive. In another few agonizing moments, two policemen arrived and handcuffed BCW. Myles sank to his knees in sheer exhaustion- but only for a moment. He raced back up towards the house, ignoring the protests of the medics who were trying to attend to his wounds. He needed to see if Sade and Wale were safe. Once at the house, he was restrained from entering the main room with the activity, and felt deflated. Two bodies were wheeled out of the charred room, attached to a number of medical gadgets. A good sign, there was life in the bodies. A few minutes later, a white woman, who looked unhurt was escorted out by uniformed policemen; she appeared to be in a trance, as if it was all unreal. Myles would have gladly pinched her. He wanted to smile, but it would have been too painful. He was glad this was all over, and he, Myles Browne, had been a huge part of it.

Eniola shut the door to Wale’s hospital room and leaned on it. She was physically and and mentally exhausted. It was tiring, frustrating even. Myles gathered her in his arms and kissed her forehead. He had been her rock for the few weeks. She couldn’t believe that Wale had survived. After being in a coma for 3 days, he had fought the battle of death, and won. Wale’s mother had kept a vigil by his side since she arrived, and Eniola felt relieved. Someone would continue to take care of Wale while she tried to comprehend why Sade had suddenly disappeared. She felt a strong sense of love for Wale, and wondered what she would have done if he had died. She had been sure he had died at first, but they managed to save his life, literally by seconds. Jenny had fired at point blank rage, and the bullet had missed his vitals by a fraction. a week or so ago, She had told Sade, rather grimly that Wale was in a coma, and had tried to explain to her that there was little chance of him surviving- she hadnt wanted to raise Sade's hopes. But as she now leaned in Myles arms, she wondered, if her friend heard her at all or misunderstood. When she’d told Sade about Wale’s coma, Sade had looked at her through unseeing eyes. Then, she had hurled out a short scream and broken into a torrent of cries. She began to relapse and the doctors barged in. Eniola had been led away from the room, while the doctors attended to Sade. Since then, Sade had refused to see anyone, even though the doctors assured that her was well, and ready to go home. Then yesterday, the nurse informed her that her friend had been discharged and had left the hospital. Today, a phone call had confirmed Eniola's worst fears. Sade had fled the country, just when things were about to get better for them all.

i'm so glad u let them dem caught alive (jenny & BCW).And u didn't take d easy way out by ending the story of Wale & Sade just yet. It makes complete sense that Sade would want to isolate herself 4 a while.

u can't do a quick rebound after losing a marriage, a child and almost your life in one day.

Kai...suspense! Ahn ahn, why did Sade still leave the country? Did she lose the baby? Didn't she want a fresh start with Wale? I'm def sure that she escaped so that BCW's crew will just not find her and finish the job of killing her...

I feel like I'm watching a movie that I don't want to end. Ahhh, bimby u're such an excellent writer.

BTW, I'm loving Eniola and Myles' romance, can't wait to hear abt marriage and a beautiful biracial baby on the way...
